Chile is joining an increasing list of countries legalizing or decriminalizing marijuana.
Although it hasn’t yet been publicly-announced, the Associated Press has reported that Chile’s president, Michelle Bachelet has removed marijuana from the country’s list of hard drugs. The same decree also authorizes the sale of marijuana-derived medicine at pharmacies.
This action follows the planting by a municipal government in October, 2014 of the country's first legal marijujana under a government-approved pilot program targeted to address the pain endured by cancer patients.
A public announcement and specifics is expected in the near future.
